Kumasi is a collage/mixed media artist currently suffering from
an "art-block". His hope is that sharing his art with others will help re-invigorate his process and allow him to continue
doing what he does best.
Kumasi still hasn't lost his youthful belief in revolutionary change.
He believes many people are too dismissive of the power and effect of visual art. We take in thousands of
images and structures a day that were made to look a specific way by specific people with specific agendas. There
is no way this has no effect. Art, however, does not have to be made by and for the dominant culture.
In particular, collage and mixed media art are accessible as a medium for most people. Afterall, most of us
started collaging with safety scissors and magazines in kindergarden.
Kumasi uses singular mainstream images that are sold to us as
the norm and complicates them in such a way that hopefully expresses the intersections of races and genders. His
newly created images are often a social commentary on the simplistic ways in which the original images
are taken in. Other times he is being far less complex and finds himself messing around with colors and textures.
He is looking for his next artistic move and style.
